A circuit breaker (ASBS) for automatically breaking a faulty section, which has an overload protecting function and a sectionalizing function. Back-up protective devices (CB, REC), that are operated earlier than the breaker (ASBS), prevent the electric current from flowing again into a fault point when the circuit is closed again. When the line current is larger than a minimum operation current of the breaker (ASBS) but is smaller than a locking current, the breaker drives a timing circuit and operates as a sectionalizer. The breaker (ASBS) is tripped when the time limit of the timing circuit has passed or when the current is broken by the back-up protective devices (CB, REC) before the time limit has lapsed. When the line current is larger than the locking current, the breaker restrains the operation of the timing circuit and works as a sectionalizer. When the current is broken by the back-up protective devices (CB, REC), the breaker (ASBS) is tripped. |
