[Also in Division C3] A thermally insulating building panel is obtained by applying to a protective facing layer a cellular urea-formaldehyde resin in pellet form bonded with a foamable polyurethane resin which is then foamed and cured. The facing layer, which may be applied to both sides of the cellular material may be paper, hardboard, asbestos, plywood, hydrated gypsum plaster, plaster reinforced with synthetic resin or, in a preferred embodiment, glass fibre impregnated with a curable polyester resin which is cured simultaneously with the polyurethane. The product may be made in a mould, or continuously, by applying resin-coated particles on to a resin-impregnated glass fibre web, applying a further web, and curing and foaming between belts. |
