9- or 11-Nitro-apovincamic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new: R=COX, COOR1, CONR2R3 or CN; X=halogen; R1= an opt. substd. 1-10C aliphatic gp., a 3-8C alicyclic gp. or a 6-14C aromatic hydrocarbon gp.; R2 and R3=H or 1-8C alkyl, or NR2R3 is a satd. ring opt. contg. one or more further N atoms or other heteroatoms, or R3 may be NH2 when R2 is H.
