Oestrane derivs. of formula (I) are new: X = Br or I, including radioactive isotopes, in Z or E configuration; R1 = H, OH or up to 3C acyloxy; R2 = H, up to 3C alkyl, or up to 7C alkanoyl or aroyl; R3 and R6 = H or Me; R4 = alpha or beta H; R5 = H, Me or MeO; (1) R5 is not MeO and R1, R2, R3 and R6 are not H when X = iodo in E configuration; (2) R2 is not H or Me, and R1, R3, R5 and R6 are not H, when X = iodo or radio-iodo in E configuration; (3) R1, R3, R5 and R6 are not H; and R2 is not Me, when X = bromo in Z position.
