PURPOSE:To prevent knocking by conducting, in addition to study of the air-fuel ratio control, the correction of ignition timing when the value for the regions on a study value table have exceeded their specified values, and thereby keeping the proper control of the air-fuel ratio. CONSTITUTION:At step 13, the address corresponding to the position of the compartment on a study value table is sensed. If the integral alpha of the output of an O2 sensor is smaller than 1, the minimum unit DELTAA is subtracted at step 17 from the study value in the corresponding address. If alpha is larger than 1, the minimum unit DELTAA is added at atep 21 to the study value. This will keep the air-fuel ratio control proper even when the characteristics of air flow meter have changed, which would contribute to prevention of knocking.
