PURPOSE:To produce a tool material of a hard laminated and sintered body having high strength and toughness by unitizing a specific laminar sintered body of a hard blade material and a laminar sintered body of a rigid backing material to one body in a laminar state and sintering the united body to form a laminated structural body. CONSTITUTION:Powder of 1 or >=2 kinds among Co, Ni, iron, Cr, etc. is added to hard powder of 1 or >=2 kinds among W2N, W2C, etc. and a molding is formed of such powder mixture. The molding is preliminarily sintered to form the laminar preliminarily sintered body of the rigid backing material. Powder of 1 or >=2 kinds among Co, Ni, iron, etc. is disposed as a binding layer in a thin laminar state on said body. The laminar preliminarily sintered body of the hard blade material formed by adding hard powder of 1 or >=2 kinds among W2C, TaC, NbC, etc. and powder of 1 or >=2 kinds among Co, Ni, iron, etc., molding the powder mixture and subjecting the molding to preliminary sintering is further installed thereon. Such laminated and preliminarily sintered body is subjected to normal sintering, by which the laminated structural body sintered integrally with the laminar sintered body of the hard blade material and the laminar sintered body of the rigid backing material into the laminar state is formed.
