A telemetric data-gathering system includes a mobile central station (12) and a plurality of areally distributed seismic data acquisition units (10) such as sonobuoys. Upon command from the central station (12), FM radio transceivers in the buoys (10) transmit seismic data back to the central station (12). The transmitter gain (38) of the transceivers (20) for each buoy (10) is scaled in inverse relation to the proximity of that buoy (10) to the central station 12. |
