Lamp shade element, consisting of two glass panes (10, 12), arranged at a close distance from one another and provided with a circumferential rim (16), and of coloured quartz sand introduced into the interspace (14) and provided with a dry adhesive, as well as a method for producing such a lamp shade by cutting blanks of a pair of similar glass panes, superimposing the glass panes, inserting a spacer strip of 1 to 2 mm thickness between the glass panes, sealing three side faces of this double glass pane with a copper foil, inserting coloured quartz sand provided with a dry adhesive into the interspace between the glass panes, sealing the remaining fourth side of the double glass pane with a copper foil, firing the double glass pane filled with the quartz sand and sealed with the copper foil, and applying a lead foil around the copper foil. <IMAGE>
