PURPOSE:To make it possible to enhance the efficiency of air suction in a general purpose internal-combustion engine for civil engineering work, etc., by providing the intake-air port of a precleaner on the side remote from a muffler such that it does not project from a plane including one side surface of an air cleaner. CONSTITUTION:An air cleaner 6 having a precleaner 5 and a muffler 7 are arranged in parallel with each other on one side of an engine body 1 provided on its one side surface with a cooling fan, a flywheel and a recoil starter 3 and on its top surface with a fuel tank 4, the air cleaner 6 being positioned on the starter 3 side while the intake-air port 41 of the precleaner 5 is positioned on the side removed from the muffler 7 to prevent high temperature exhaust gas from being sucked. Further, the intake-air port 51 is not projected outward from the plane F including the side surface of an air cleaner body 6, and therefore, it does not hinder the pulling operation of a rope grip 31 for the starter 3. Thus, the engine may be made to be compact with its entirety, and the cleaners 5, 6 may be made to be short so that the resistance of communication becomes less, thereby it is possible to enhance the efficiency of air suction. |
