PURPOSE:To attain ease of processing and assembling by adopting the constitution that a magnetic tape support rod fixed to a stator supports a magnetic tape while being fitted freely to a slot of a rotary drum. CONSTITUTION:The support rod 16a at the drum inlet side is fitted freely to the slot 17a at the uppermost part of the rotary drum 14, the magnetic tape 1 is supported by the upper side edge and the support rod 16c at the drum outlet side supports the magnetic tape 1 while being fitted freely to the lowermost slot 17c. The magnetic tape 1 is supported by the support rod 17 and the full face is run along the rotary drum 14 and the magnetic head 5 records or reproduces information. Since the magnetic tape 1 is supported by the magnetic tape support rod 17 without using a fixed drum, the adjustment of the alignment between the rotary drum and the fixed drum, the assembling accuracy of a free fitting part over the entire circumference and the accuracy of components of the drums are not demanded, and since the lead step is substituted by the adjustment of the support rod 17, the cost for forming the step is saved.
