PURPOSE:To safely intertwist optical fibers without damaging the optical fibers, by making the phase of the spiral groove of a spacer coincident with the intertwisting position of the optical fibers by twisting the spacer. CONSTITUTION:In order to produce an optical fiber cable, a plastic spacer S is first pulled out from a spacer supplying bobbin 2 by a prescribed length and passed through a rotary cage 1, free special-form guide 621, fixed special- form guide 62, and intertwisting die 3. Then optical fibers (c), - are pulled out from optical fiber supplying bobbins by prescribed lengths and passed through straps 63 and the intertwisting die 3. Thereafter, phase alignment of the fibers at the twisting port of the die 3 and the spiral groove of the spacer S is performed by adjusting distances from the straps 63, fixed special-form guide 62, etc., to the intertwisting die 3, their rotating angles against the die 3, etc. After the phase alignment is performed, the rotary cage 1 of the main body of the intertwisting machine is rotated at a prescribed speed and the cable is intertwisted by winding the cable at a prescribed speed.
