PURPOSE:To enable a display having sufficiently high concentration of a blue color by filling a specific electrochromic solution contg. an active substance, an auxiliary oxidation-reduction substance and an electrolyte between electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In the above described chromic solution, the active substance comprises sch as N,N-di(p-cyanophenyl)4,4-bipyridiumdichloride (p-CV2Cl) etc. The electroyte is composed of a hypophosphorus acid ion such as sodium hypophosphorite NaH2PO2 and a salt obtd. from anion of the prescribed active substance and an alkaline ion of the auxiliary oxidation-reduction substance, such as KCl or NaCl. The prescribed electrochromic substance comprises 0.005-0.035M(mol) active substance, >=0.5M hypophosphorite ion and >=0.25M the salt such as KCl.
