PURPOSE:To prepare the titled pet food having excellent palatability and preservability, by adjusting the water-content of a solid feed to a specific level, and heating the feed with steam. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a solid feed prepared by solidifying grains, fish and cattle meat (or its by-products), dairy product, brans, vegetable oil cakes, vitamins, minerals, etc. with an extruder, etc. is sprayed with water to adjust the water-content of the feed to 20-40wt%. The surface is optionally coated with 1-10wt% casein (salt), and heated at >=80 deg.C for 1-15min with steam. If necessary, the surface of the product is coated with 1-7wt% animal oil or fat such as tallow, chicken oil, etc. or vegetable oil or fat such as soybean oil in liquid state at a temperature above the melting point of the oil or fat, to obtain the objective feed. |
