The invention relates to an ore deposit of the type requiring an advancing tunnel from which the ore is mined in order to be sent to the surface by means of one or more shafts. The advancing tunnel 4 is dug at a level slightly above the level of the ore deposit 1, in order to successively lie over each part of the deposit which has been chosen to be mined, and by means of a pit-drilling device working with mud or slurry, the ore 1 is mined by drilling contiguous successive pits perpendicularly to the advancing tunnel through the whole thickness of the deposit, while replacing the ore which is thus mined with a hardening mixture, based for example on cement. <IMAGE>
