1287938 Photographic processes for producing polymeric images FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 31 Oct 1969 [31 Oct 1968] 53601/69 Heading G2C [Also in Division C2] Polymeric images are produced by developing, in the presence of a vinyl or vinylidene monomer, or an itaconate or a maleate, an imagewise exposed silver halide emulsion with an active methylene compound of one of the following formulae: wherein R 1 and R 2 are alkyl, substituted alkyl or phenyl groups, R 3 is hydrogen or alkyl and R 1 may form a ring with R 2 or R 3 , R 4 is hydrogen or alkyl, R 5 is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, cyano or chlorine, R 6 is alkyl, substituted aryl or sodium or R 5 and R 6 together form a ring, X is oxygen, imino or = N-NH-C 6 H 5 , X<SP>1</SP> and Y is oxygen or imino, R 7 is acyl, alkyl or a metal complexing atom where X<SP>1</SP> is oxygen and aryl when X<SP>1</SP> is amino, R 8 is ethoxycarbonyl or cyano and R 9 is hydrogen or phenyl. The invention also relates to a developer which comprises an aqueous alkaline solution of an active methylene compound set out above and of a vinyl or vinylidene monomer, itaconate or maleate. The processing may be carried out as set out in Specifications 1131200, 1217906, 1243811, 1247251, 1269727 and 1284461. Dyed images may be produced by the process set out in Specification 1221325. |
