PURPOSE:To increase the lipophilic nature of wood and to ease the recovery of waste oil being the cause of the maritime pollution and the lake pollution or the like by performing the gaseous chlorine treatment for the dried wood waste such as the shavings of pencil and the sawdusts. CONSTITUTION:Water saturated preliminarily with gaseous chlorine is filled in an Erlenmeyer flask and a cock B is closed, and a cock A and a cylinder valve C are opened. Water substituted with gaseous chlorine of required quantity can be measured by a burette. The cock B is opened while the cylinder valve C is closed and a mixer incorporated with the dried wood waste is rotated. The cock A is adjusted so that gaseous chlorine is flowed in the mixer for a specified period. As the shape of wood waste, the shaving shape of pencil and the sawdust shape or the like are preferable. The obtained hydrophilic wood waste can be adsorbed to the whole parts of petroleum and oil and the wood waste adsorbed with oil is remarkably effective for the recovery of waste oil of maritime pollution.
