PURPOSE:To obtain a recording with compatibility even at stop or a tape speed different from a specified speed by generating a correction vertical synchronizing signal having a different frequency and a phase from those of a vertical synchronizing signal of a video signal and controlling the drive of a drum motor synchronously with the said signal. CONSTITUTION:When an intermittent drive command signal is inputted to a correction vertical synchronizing signal generating circuit 9, the video signal is recorded only at the H level of a recording command signal from a drum controller 10. On the other hand, a vertical synchronizing signal having a period V0 is inputted to the circuit 9 from a vertical synchronizing signal separating circuit 7 and given to the controller 10 from the circuit 9 as a correction vertical synchronizing signal having a period V1(=V0+delta) during the period of H level of the switching signal from the controller 10. Thus, the controller 10 controls a motor 6 to synchronize a detection signal of the drive speed and turning phase from the drum motor 6 with the correction vertical synchronizing signal.
