PURPOSE:To dispense with a process removing a residual grinding fluid from a work as well as to make a lowering of work sizing accuracy due to thermal expansion in a wheel preventable without fail, by forming a coolant flow passage inside a base metal of the grinding wheel, and making the coolant flow in the passage. CONSTITUTION:During grinding operation, a coolant flows in a coolant flow passage 11 by way of a coolant feed passage 14, an interconnecting passage 13, a circumferential groove 12 and a coolant inflow passage 9, and afterward it is discharged out through a coolant outflow passage 10, a circumferential groove 15, an interconnecting passage 16 and a coolant discharge passage 17. Therefore, during grinding operation, a grinding wheel 8 is sufficiently cooled from the internal part by the coolant whereby thermal expansion in the grinding wheel 8 due to grinding heat or the like is checked, and a lowering of work sizing accuracy is preventable. In addition, there is unnecessary to sprinkle a grinding fluid over the wheel so that an after-process for removing the grinding fluid is no longer required and, what is more, mixing and sticking of impurities in and to the work by the grinding fluid are all eliminable.
