PURPOSE:To reduce the depth of a microwave electric-discharge light source so that the light source does not become close to the surface to be irradiated by avoiding the axis of the microwave-generator-side section of the waveguide to be perpendicular to the surface of the current feeding hole. CONSTITUTION:A microwave resonant cavity 5 consists of a symmetrical cavity wall 61 also acting as a light-reflecting plate, and a translucent plate 7. A globular lamp 9 is supported by bars 91 from both sides. Despite the corner section 31 of the waveguide, the mode for exciting an electromagnetic field produced in the microwave resonant cavity 5 is excited by the TE10 mode of the waveguide. Owing to the corner section 31, it is possible to reduce the depth of the device in the direction of light from the light source. |
