Documents fed along a main guideway 10 by an endless belt 18 are each delivered into a selected one of a plurality of auxiliary guideways such as 14, 16 when the corresponding deflecting gate, e.g. 28, is moved by a controlling solenoid, e.g. 32. Each gate is preceded in the main guideway by a document detector, e.g. 36. A reader 42 reads information on a passing document which identifies the auxiliary guideway into which it is to be delivered, and passes it to a binary register 52, and then, as the document proceeds, to further registers such as 54. The information in each register is passed also to a corresponding verifier such as 56, and if it relates to the corresponding gate, the signals from the register and the corresponding detector unite to energize the solenoid to open the gate. |
