Process for the purification of fumes resulting from a controlled combustion and free from sulphur trioxide SO3, noteworthy in that it comprises the following stages: - the fumes leaving the controlled combustion space at a temperature of between 450 DEG C and 1200 DEG C are subjected to a fast first cooling; - the fumes are subjected to a second cooling to lower the temperature to a temperature which is at most equal to that of the solidification of sulphur; - optionally, the preparation of the particles of sulphur and optionally of the ash with a view to their separation from the gaseous products of the fumes; - separation of the said particles of sulphur and of the ash from the gaseous fume products; - extraction of the solid particles; - the removal of the solid particles. <IMAGE> |
