<p>A piston (3) works in a cylinder (2) surrounded by a larger coaxial cylinder, joined by annular walls (1a). This forms a pair of annular reservoirs (8,9). The piston divides the cylinder into a pair of chambers (6,7), one connected by a pipe (12) to one reservoir and the other by a second pipe (10) to the other reservoir. - Each reservoir contains a liq.-gas mixture whilst the chambers contain liq. Elongation of the connection between the relatively movable objects causes withdrawal of the piston, with consequent expansion of the gas in the reservoir against atmospheric pressure and against pressure developed in the reservoir due to the decrease of gas volume.</p> |
