Method for creating thermal insulation around a closed volume essentially delimited by two parallel walls, characterised in that it consists in creating, in the space situated between these walls, a degree of vacuum calculated as a function of the mechanical strength of the structure and of the pressures inside and outside of the said volume, and in keeping this degree substantially constant by means of a pump controlled by a pressure switch controlling the degree of vacuum in the space situated between the shells.
