Copying device for plasma cutting machines comprises fixtures for the pattern and the workpiece and a movable carrier for the plasma burner. The pattern is fixed precisely above the workpiece by a locating device which, being part of both fixtures, comprises a frame movable in the y-direction and a tie rod movable in the x-direction. The burner carrier is fitted to an arm and arranged such that it is freely movable in the x- and y-directions but fixed in the z-direction, all in a spatial coordinate system. A guide pin intended to follow the pattern is arranged vertically above the burner nozzle. The dia. is approximately the same as the cutting width of the burner, and it is fitted to the shaft of a motor intended to rotate the pin and give a suitable cutting speed. The guide pin is spring supported in the vertical direction to facilitate entry into holes in the pattern. The finished workpiece is so true to the original pattern that it, without further machining except possible deburring, it can be used as a template for subsequent prodn. A prototype pattern can be made from e.g. cardboard whereupon the copy first produced can be used as a template. (Provisional Basic previously advised in week 8802) |
