A bi-stable electromagnet, which may be a current interrupter, has two coils 24, 26 each surrounding a respective remanent magnet 12, 14. The armature 16 which may control contacts 20, 22 is movable between the magnets 12, 14 as the coils 24, 26 are simultaneously energized to magnetize one remanent magnet and demagnetize the other and vice versa. Since the demagnetizing pulse must be less than the magnetizing pulse each coil is in series with a current limiting network (32) comprising a resistor and diode (Fig. 2, not shown) in a circuit providing capacitors charged to opposite polarities to provide the pulses for movement of the armature 16 in opposite directions. |
