<p>Quat. ammonium polymers are of formula (I): Z is (a) a 2-10C aliphatic radical opt. contg. up to 2 OH groups and up to 2 double bonds; R' ad R2 are 1-20C alkyl opt. contg. up to 2 OH groups, or benzyl opt. ring substd. by 2-20C alkyl or by 1-5 methyl groups; or R1 and R2 together with the N atom an form a 5-7 membered (un)saturated ring, or together with N and O form a morpholino group; or Z is (b) two ethylenic radicals ie.e. N N in wh ich case R2 is absent and R1 is 1-20C aliphatic contg. up to 2 OH groups or benzyl as above; or Z is three divalent ethylenic radicals in which case R1 and R2 are absent; R3 is 1-20 C aliphatic contg. up to 2 OH groups; R4 and R5 are 1-4C aliphatic contg. an OH group, or R4, R5 and the N atom form a 5-7 membered (un)saturated heterocycle or with O also, morpholino; or R3, R4 and R5 form quinoline, isoquinoline or hexamethylenetetramine; n = 1-15 and X is Cl or Br. The prods. are very effective at concns. as low as 50 ppm. They are used, for example, in hair conditioning compsns.</p> |
