PURPOSE:To prevent sheets from curling and eliminate jamming of sheets in a sheet supply device of a copier by releasing automatically the press of the sheet due to a paper supply roller when the sheets are not fed for a long time. CONSTITUTION:A movable portion of a paper supply tray 1 is driven by an electric drive means while positions of a paper supply roller 4 and others are detected to judge the presence of press between a sheet 40 and said roller 4. In the supply of the sheet 40, the tray 1 is located under the condition of the sheet 40 pressed against said roller 4. When the supply of the sheet 40 is not indicated, that time is measured and when it exceeds a predetermined time, the tray 1 is located to the condition of separating the sheet 40 from said roller 4. To that end, the condition of the sheet 40 pressed by said roller 4 is detected by a photosensor and the condition of separated paper supply roller 4 is judged by measuring time from leaving the initial condition to separating said roller 4. |
