METHOD FOR REMOVING RESIDUAL PIG IN NON-STORAGE TYPE SKIMMER

PURPOSE:To remove the residual pig in a non-storage type skimmer provided in the tapping spout of a blast furnace in an early time and to execute smoothly the succeeding tapping operation by cooling forcibly the residual molten iron in said skimmer to solidify the molten iron. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron and molten slag flowing out of the tap hole 1a of the blast furnace flows through the tapping spout 2 into the non-storage type skimmer 3 where the molten iron is separated to the molten iron and the molten slag by a specific gravity difference. The separated iron and slag flow respectively into a molten iron spout 4 and a slag spout 5 by a slag stopping block 3d. The molten iron remaining in the skimmer 3 is cooled by the cooling medium passed in a piping 7 for cooling embedded into the spout frame 3a of the skimmer 3 by which the molten iron is cooled after the stop of the tapping operation. An air cooling type cooling means 8 is inserted into the molten iron 6 and air for cooling is blown therethrough to cool quickly and solidify the residual molten iron 6. The block 3d is thereafter pulled up and the solidified residual pig in the skimmer 3 is removed so that he succeeding tapping operation is smoothly executed.
