An arrangement for joining two articles to each other along a joint and/or for sealing two articles with regard to each other. A first member (1) consists of a resilient material which is retained prestressed during its entire period of storage before use. A second member (2) cooperates with the first member (1) and can be made to give at a desired moment for releasing the prestress of the first member (1) so as to achieve joining and/or sealing.
