Tractable doped electroactive polymers comprise a charged polymer backbone of recurring units of a 3,3'-N,N'-disubstituted-6,6'-bicarbazole-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2,5-diyl ring system, and a sufficient concentration of a charge-compensating ionic dopant associated therewith, the polymer backbone being capable of undergoing reversible oxidation to form the charged polymer backbone.
