1291506 Clips A RAYMOND 27 Oct 1970 [28 Oct 1969] 51030/70 Heading E2B A fastener 10 is made of sheet metal, has part spherical protuberances 12, 13, 14 and 15 formed in a plate 11 thereof, a tongue 16 which extends beyond one end of the plate and has a lug 19 sheared and bent therefrom, is provided with slots 17 and 18, and an offset portion 20. The tongue 16 and the portion 20 are on the side of the fastener remote from the protuberances 12, 13, 14 and 15 and the lug 19 is directed towards the plate 11 as shown in Fig. 3. The fastener may be used to attach a moulding 21 to a vehicle framework 22 so as to hide a gap formed between the framework 22 and a windscreen panel 23. The latter is attached to the framework 22 by means of a sealing strip 24 and the moulding 21 has a flange 25 which bears against the windscreen panel 23 and a flange 26 which bears against the framework 22. The plate 11 of the fastener 10 is welded to the framework 22 at the protuberances 12, 13, 14 and 15. The flange 26 of the moulding 21 is inserted between the tongue 16 and its lug 19, the tongue being urged in a direction away from the plate 11. The resiliency of the tongue 16 then clamps the flange 26 against the framework 22 and also causes the flange 25 of the moulding to be urged against the windscreen panel 23. In a modification a fastener 10a, Fig. 4, has a portion 20a which is formed into a clip 30 to grip a portion 22a of the framework 22 and thus position the fastener 10a prior to the welding operation. |
