Tributyltin fluoride compns for protection of submerged - objects from aquatic growths

The polymerisable compns. contain (a) a polyester-based carrier (II) and (b) Bun3SnF (III). They are used to prevent the growth of aquatic organisms, e.g. barnacles, and algae, on submerged objects and esp. on glass-fibre ships-hulls. Specifically the compns. consist of (a) unsaturated polyester resin carrier (II) 50-75%; (b) Bun3SnF (III)-12-20%; (c) filler up to 20%. (a) Consists of (i) 40-65% dicarboxylic acids - pref. maleic acid (IV) and/or phthalic acid (V) with IV in excess; (ii) 15-20% diol, pref. diethylene glycol, and (iii) 30-50% alkenic copolymerisable monomer, pref. styrene. (This also controls the viscosity of the mixt.).
