K-ethoxy-carbonyl-phenyl-propyl L-alanyl L-proline

1-(N-(1-ethoxycarbonyl 3-phenylpropyl)L-alanyl L-proline is made by (a) hydrogenating the benzoic ester of 1-(N-(1-ethoxy carbonyl 3-oxo 3-phenylpropyl)L-alanyl) L-proline of formula (II) inorganic solvent e.g. ethanol, isopropanol, acetic acid, in presence of a catalyst, e.g. Pd or Pt/C at 20-50 deg. C to obtain the required cpd. of formula (I) or its acceptable salts; and (b) isolating (I) by chromatography or fractional crystallisation.
