PURPOSE:To perform arithmetic for color corrections, etc., at a high speed by guiding luminous flux which is emitted by a light source with the 1st signal to an optical waveguide, diffracting it by a diffraction grating based upon the intensity of the 1st signal, and processing a signal obtained by photodetection and obtaining the 2nd signal. CONSTITUTION:A thin-film optical waveguide 12 is provided on the surface of the substrate 11 of a matrix arithmetic type color correction arithmetic device. A semiconductor laser light source 13 (having -1, etc., in a figure omitted) is allowed to emit light is proportion to respective color signals and its luminous flux is guided to a comb-shaped electrode 16 formed on the waveguide 12 through a waveguide lens 15. When a voltage based upon respective signal is applied to the electrode 16, periodic variation in refractive index is caused by electrooptic effect proportional to the respective signals and this operates as a phase diffraction grating on the luminous flux. Optical attenuators 19 and 21 are provided with light transmissivity proportional to coefficients of their matrixes. Outputs signals of photodetectors 20 and 22 are processed by addition and subtraction to obtain a desired result. Thus, various arithmetic operations including color corrections are carried out at a high speed by the simple structure. |
