PURPOSE:To enhance the chemical stability and adsorption capability of a heavy metal adsorbent, by a method wherein a corroded organic material contg. a specific amount of organic N or a mixture of the above organic material and gelatin, etc. is heat-treated in the presence of formaldehyde, etc. CONSTITUTION:A corroded organic material having 1-10% of organic N in which corrosion has sufficiently procesed, or a mixture of the above organic material and gelatin or polyvinyl calcohol is heat-treated at a proper temperature in the presence of formaldehyde or its derivatives (e.g. formalin and parafomaldehyde). This process provides a heavy metal adsorbent having excellent adsorbent properties. This adsorbent contains that part in which the corroded organic material and the formaldehyde derivative are chemically combined, and is chemically more stable than conventional one. |
