Apparatus for horizontal continuous casting of metals and alloys, in particular steels, comprising a shaping sliding chill mould (4), preferably equipped with a cooling means, and sensors (13, 14, 15), connected to a storage and control device (16, 17), for detecting the amount of heat drawn off from the strand (3) by means of a cooling medium, and a setting device (12) which can be actuated by the storage and control device (16, 17) for controlling the amount of heat drawn off, characterised in that the apparatus comprising a horizontal sliding chill mould (4) connected to a melt container (1) and an optionally oscillating drive mechanism for the strand (3), includes at least one aftercooler (5), which is formed as a plate cooler with displaceable cooling elements (5a, 5b, 5c), through which a cooling medium flows, sensors (13, 14, 15) arranged on the cooling elements, preferably on each cooling element of the aftercooler (5), being connected to the storage and control device (16, 17), for detecting the amount of heat drawn off by the cooling medium, the storage and control device (16, 17) being connected in turn to the setting devices (12) which are associated with the cooling elements (5a, 5b, 5c), preferably with each cooling element, and which can be adjusted by means of the control device (16, 17) to predetermined nominal values for adjusting the position and therefore the contact pressure of the cooling elements (5a, 5b, 5c), or their cooling surfaces (6a, 6b, 6c), on the respective surfaces of the strand (3) and/or for adjusting the speed at which the cooling medium flows through the cooling elements. |
