In order to generate a model component, in particular a wing for a model aeroplane, an outer skin is laid in a negative mould. Then a precisely metered amount of polyurethane foam is fed in, a polystyrene core is inserted and the negative mould closed. The foaming polyurethane forms a uniform thin layer between the core and the outer skin and presses the outer skin against the inner surfaces of the negative mould. In this manner a model component results which is substantially lighter than a model component foamed completely with PU foam.
