A process is disclosed for producing purified phosphoric acid from phosphatic rock. In this process, the phosphatic rock is decomposed with mineral acids, for example with acid and/or sulphuric acid. The solution liquor obtained is neutralised with a calcium-containing compound, such as calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, tricalcium phosphate or powdered phosphatic rock, thereby producing an aqueous solution containing 0.4 to 5.5 % by weight of CaO. After the precipitated solids have been separated off, the phosphatic constituent is extracted from the clarified solution using an organic solvent. The phosphoric acid is subsequently produced from the solvent extract using known methods, such as washing-out or distillation.
