The disclosure is the same as that in the Specification 1,254,432 but the claims are directed to a method and apparatus for measuring a property of a moving sheet in which a detector of the property effects a plurality of scanning strokes transversely of the sheet, deviations of the property in a plurality of sheet zones running parallel to the longitudinal direction of the sheet from the average value of the property across all of the zones is computed, the computation is repeated for each scanning stroke, and sets of corresponding deviation values for each zone are accumulated.
