PURPOSE:To increase the S/N of an MR head by providing a conductor thin-film for applying a bias magnetic field to MRE between a ferromagnetic thin-film and a lower magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic substrate 30 of Mn-Zn single crystal ferrite, etc., is polished optically with a GC grindstone or diamond paste, and the 1st insulating layer 31 is formed over its entire surface. An Ni-Fe film as MRE32 and the 1st conductive thin-film 33 for a common bias, are formed on the same plane of the 1st insulating layer 31 by vapor-deposition and photolithography in a track width direction. An insulating film 34 is formed only on the 1st conductive thin-film 33, then the 2nd conductive films 35 and 36 as electrodes for flowing a sense current to the MRE are formed on the film 33. Consequently, deterioration in magneto-resistance effect characteristics due to the deterioration in surface property is scarcely induced and high S/N signal reproduction is realized. |
