Pellets are mfd. by feeding damp, fine grain material, rich in iron oxide, to pelletisers working in parallel. A minority of these, typically 1-3 pelletisers out of 5-8, are fed with a base material giving a basicity, i.e. a weight ratio of CaO to SiO2, of at most 0.3 in the pellets while the remaining pelletisers produce pellets with a basicity of at least 0.6. The base material for the minotiry of the pelletisers contains at least 0.5% by pellet weight of magnesium oxide, pref. as olivine, and also 2% by weight of a slag former, resulting in pellets with a slag former content of more than 4% while the pellets produced by the remaining pelletisers contain less tan 4%. |
