The invention relates to a refuse press. It is characterised by a mounting for a receiving or pressing container which has a peripheral wall and a floor and is open on its side facing the floor, by a pressing plate which can be moved into the reception or pressing container, is situated opposite the floor of the said container and is guided so as to be displaceable by means of a guide element in the axial direction perpendicularly to the floor of the container on a guide of the mounting, and by a device which acts between the pressing plate and the mounting to move the pressing plate towards the floor of the reception or pressing container.
