An industrial process and a plant installation for husking seeds of sesame are claimed. The seeds are moistened and rubbed against each other. Before the friction treatment the seeds are injected with water and steam so that they have a moisture content of the order of 15 per cent. The process pref. includes two stages. In a first stage the seeds are passed through an attrition mill while water and steam is injected to give the seeds a moisture content of about 15 per cent. The mill discharges on to a screening sieve. - In a second stage, the screened seeds are steamed to raise their moisture content to between 16 and 18 per cent. The seeds are then dried as they pass through another attrition mill which detaches the remaining husks from the seeds. - The installation pref. comprises a mechanical cleaning and screening unit through which the seeds are passed before undergoing stages 1 and 2 of the process.
