<p>Certain 4-(benz(otri/imid)azol-1-yl)phenoxyalkanoic acids, esters and salts of formula <CHEM> wherein Z is nitrogen or CR<3>; X is halogen and n is 0,1 or 2, or n is 1 and X is cyano, methyl, halomethyl, methoxy, halomethoxy, methylthio, halomethylthio, methylsulfinyl, halomethylsulfinyl, methylsulfonyl or halomethylsulfonyl; R is methyl, ethyl or methoxymethyl; m is 0, 1 or 2: R<1> is hydrogen, alkyl of one to four carbon atoms, an alkali metal or ammonium (N(R<2>)4)ion, wherein each R<2> independently is hydrogen or alkyl of one to six carbon atoms; and R<3> is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; are useful as herbicides.</p> |
