A machine for fabricating control wires with a die-cast ferrule at one end for use in bicycles, cars, etc. has tools for cutting and spreading the end of a piece of wire, casting equipment for setting the ferrule on the end, and a means whereby the spread end of the wire may be grasped and transferred into the casting dies. The transfer mechanism comprises a carriage running along rails joining the cutting tools and the die casting equipment, carrying a pair of jaws to hold the wire. The distance between the cutter and the casting equipment may be varied according to the required length of the cable, which is determined by the length of the carriage run between cutter and caster. The machine is fully automatic, it does not require manual positioning of the wire in the dies. It is more accurate and reliable than manually-operated machines. |
