PURPOSE:To speed up the response of an instrument for measuring dissolved oxygen, etc. for pollution prevention by providing plural sheets of anodes and cathodes in an electrolyte and disposing the same into the island shape so that the one polarity thereof is enclosed by the electrodes of the other polarity. CONSTITUTION:Plural sheets of the anodes 7a and cathodes 8a are disposed to a substrate 8 consisting of an insulator and are disposed into the island shape so that the electrodes of at least one polarity are enclosed by the electrodes of the other polarity from the four sides. The electrode pitch between the centers of the anodes 7a and the cathodes 8a is made several time the thickness of a diaphragm or below. Such electrode is provided in the electrolyte and the electrolyte is brought into contact with a liquid to be tested through the diaphragm. The oxygen concn. in the liquid to be tested and the oxygen concn. in the electrolyte are balanced through the diaphragm and the oxygen concn. in the liquid to be tested is measured from the current value between the electrodes. Since the electrodes are disposed into the island configuration, the oxygen concn. in the liquid to be tested is distributed to an inverted bowl shape, by which the response speed is increased and the error owing to the flow rate of the liquid to be tested is eliminated. |
