Liquid-crystalline substances

The invention relates to liquid-crystalline substances which are esters of 4-[(4-alkylcyclohexyl)methyl]benzoic acids or cyclohexanecarboxylic acids of the formula <IMAGE> where n = 1 to 10, m = 1 to 10 and S = 1 to 10. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of these esters. Due to their liquid-crystalline properties these novel compounds can be employed in optoelectronic displays.
