PURPOSE:To obtain a large electric-discharge energy by forming a piezoelectric element into a stepped form having a thick shaft part and a thin shaft part and applying electrodes onto the both edges and the stepped surface of the piezoelectric element, thus permitting the utilization of the longitudinal effect strain of the piezoelectric element and the increase of voltage. CONSTITUTION:A piezoelectric element 2 is formed into stepped form having two parts of a thick shaft part 2A and a thin shaft part 2B. Electrodes are sintered onto the both edges 22 and 23 and the stepped surface 21 of the piezoelectric element 2. A resonance voltage is applied as the primary voltage between the stepped surface 21 and the edge surface on the thick shafts 2A, side and a voltage is generated at the edge surface of the thin shaft side 2B. Electric discharge is performed by supplying the generated voltage into an electric discharge gap. Therefore, the utilization of the longitudinal effect strain of the piezoelectric element and the increase of voltage due to the shape effect are permitted, and a large electric discharge energy is obtained. |
