<p>Fuel compsn. comprises a liquid hydrocarbon fuel contg. a biocidally effective amount of an amine salt of formula:- (where R is H or 1 - 18C alkyl, and R' is 3 - 18C alkyl). Pref. cpd. is t-butyl butylamine salt of 2-mercaptopyridine-1-oxide and it is present in an amt. of 0.1 - 5 ppm. The amine salts are prepd. by reacting the corresp. amine with 2-mercaptopyridine-1-oxide in anhyd. organic solvent at 0 - 60 degrees C. Prevents microorganisms from emulsifying fule or forming slimes, esp. in aviation fuel.</p> |
