1376448 Purifying air BENDIX CORP 2 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 50922/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] An air conditioning system for an aircraft comprises a filter A for removing solid and liquid particles, a filter B containing activated charcoal and lithium hydroxide for removing odorous oil and organic vapours and CO 2 , alternately operable dehumidifying chambers 14, 16, a pre-heating heat exchanger 24, an electrical heater 26 and two chambers 10, 12 each containing a mixture of barium oxide and barium peroxide, wherein one chamber 10 acts to absorb oxygen from pressurized incoming air while absorbed oxygen is released from the other chamber 12 by reducing the pressure therein. The chambers 10, 12 are electrically heated and are controlled by valves 28, 36, 48. Air from the chamber in which oxygen is being absorbed is passed through a conduit 42 to that chamber 14 or 16 which is inoperative to regenerate same. A control device 50 for regulating the oxygen proportion in the air delivered includes an inlet 46 communicating with the conduit 42, an inlet 60 receiving oxygen from the chambers 10, 12 and a control valve 68 responsive to a manual control 80 or to the altitude of the aircraft. |
